Nikon has unveiled two new compact system cameras (CSCs), the Nikon J3 and the Nikon S1.
The J3, which is in addition to the recently announced Nikon J2 is capable of shooting at 15fps and has the worlds smallest body for a CSC with a CX format sensor, measuring 101x60.5x28.8mm .
Like the J2 and Nikon V2, the J3 has Slow View mode, that allows users to see the action in slow motion to record the decisive moment, and Live Image Control, which gives a preview the effects of settings in the monitor prior to shooting.
In addition, the Snapshot function has been improved and there's an Advanced Movie mode that enables settings adjustments in Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Manual Exposure mode when recording movies.
With an effective pixel count of 14.2-million pixels, the J3 has a sensitivity range of ISO 160-6400, can capture up to approximately 22 shots with a single burst of continuous shooting at 15 fps (with AF tracking), and approximately 20 shots with a single burst of continuous shooting at 60 fps (without AF tracking).
The J3 will be available in 5 colours (silver, red, white, black, and beige).
Intuitive operation
The Nikon S1 is introduced as Nikon's entry-level CSC and although it has the same functions as other Nikon 1 cameras, including Slow View mode, it has a new graphic user interface (GUI) for easier, more intuitive control.
With 10.1-million pixels on its CX format sensor the Nikon 1 S1 has a sensitivity range of ISO 100รข"6400, and can capture approximately 15 shots with a single burst of continuous shooting at either 15 or 60 fps.
Both new cameras feature Nikon's EXPEED 3A image-processing engine.
Nikon will make the S1 available in five colours: black, pink, red, white and khaki. As with the J3, lenses sold as part of the kit will be the same colour as the body.
Nikon has yet to announce the price and availability date of the J3 and S1.
