Google has extended its tablet range â€" literally â€" with the launch of the new Nexus 10.

The tablet, which is manufactured by Samsung, will be coming with a new version of Android Jelly Bean â€" this time cleverly known as 4.2 â€" although it will take a slightly different form for the tablet style.

The device is being touted as having the world's 'highest resolution tablet display', with the 10.055-inch screen packing 2560 x 1600 pixels to give it a 300 dpi screen… take that, Apple.

Pixel power

Spec-fans may take umbrage at the fact it 'only' has a dual core A15 Eagle processor â€" but combined with the new Mali T604 GPU, it's a pretty powerful package, although there's no word on the rumoured Exynos 5 processor the benchmarks previously revealed.

It's also offering up 2GB of RAM to keep things ticking along, and a soft touch frame for added grippiness when holding the 603g Google Nexus 10 in the hand.

The price is a little higher than the bargain basement Google Nexus 4 and Nexus 7, with the 16GB Google Nexus 10 price coming at £319 (US$399) and the 32GB option offered at £389 (US$499).

However, the likes of dual-side NFC mean you can connect with other devices either side of the tablet, and with front-facing speakers the media experience is much higher than that of other slates.

The Google Nexus 10 release date has been set for 13 November in the UK, US and Australia via the Google Play Store, so if you're anti-iPad but want a larger-screened device, you better have a word with Santa sharpish.
