CTIA 2012: What to Expect
CTIA 2012: What to Expect

For cell phone fans in the US, few shows are as exciting as CTIA Wireless. While shows like CES (Consumer Electronics Show) and MWC (Mobile World Conference) also highlight what's up and coming in the world of mobile technology, CTIA Wireless has a decidedly US-focus.
In short, if you see a phone at CTIA Wireless, you're pretty much guaranteed to see that phone hit US shores in the near future.
Will the spectrum debate steal the show?
In years past, the buzz at the show has swirled around obvious topics such as which phone has the best display, camera, or various other features.
Rather uncharacteristically, we expect to hear a lot about the spectrum debate that is just now heating up.
Whether its T-Mobile's attempt to block Verizon's acquisition of more spectrum or T-Mobile's successful bid to acquire more spectrum from AT&T, early speculation points to this topic stealing much of the buzz.
Things should especially heat up during the carrier roundtable when the CEOs from Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile all sit down together.
Unveiling the Incredible
Verizon briefly posted details about the Droid Incredible 4G LTE, but as quick as they appeared they disappeared. We fully expect Verizon to unveil the next Incredible at CTIA.
If the leak is to be believed, the LTE capable phone will come with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 4-inch qHD Super LCD display, a 960x540 resolution, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, an 8MP camera, Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense 4.0.
According to the leak, the fairly well-specced phone will also be fairly high-priced, at $300 with a two-year contract.
Notable omission?
While we expect to see handsets from all of the major manufacturers, there will be one conspicuous omission: Sony.
In a conversation recently with Sony's PR representative, Chelsea Alexander, she stated simply that "Sony Mobile Communications will not be attending CTIA this year."
TechRadar will be in New Orleans on May 8 when the show kicks off to bring you updated news, hands-on reviews and more. So check back to enjoy all of the shiny new goodness that is CTIA Wireless.
